To answer briefly, when medications are unable or no longer able to lower your blood sugar levels to a good level, often insulin is started. However, to prevent low blood sugar or hypo. Often a low dose of insulin is used. This low dose needs to be increased slower, every 3-4days (with consultation with your doctor), to get your fasting sugars down slowly.
