In the last couple of weeks, I have heard of two different cases in India where the hospital kept a patient in ICU on life support for weeks on end. In one case, even after the family asked for the patient to be transferred to a normal room, the hospital would not. Eventually they told the family they could discharge the patient to the care of the family but could not transfer to a room in the same hospital
Is this normal?
What are the patient and family rights in such a situation? Especially if a patient has not stated their end of life wishes. Is there a reason the hospital does not transfer the patient to a normal room?
