Juliana Lim has had Type 2 diabetes for 27 years. Here she shares her tips to handle the CNY festive season
My way of eating applies consistently throughout irregardless of festive seasons. They are:
- Eat using the PLATE concept (50% green leafy vegetables, 25% protein, 25% unpolished rice)
- Eat in moderation, stay put in the 3 meals, do not over indulge in more meals like snacks, snacks and snacks.
- CNY /festive goodies, eat with care. Ensure you have enough fresh fibre intake because they aid in sugar management.
- Hydrate yourself with water regularly (Not applicable for those with kidney problems)
- Movements, do not be idle, movements of all sorts aid in better diabetes management.
Understand your body, take your medications, exercise, be happy, be in control mindset.
